Four teens arrested for attempted carjacking

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ibrahima Mass Gueye, 18, and three juveniles were arrested yesterday and charged with attempted carjacking.

At about 5:28 p.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about an attempted carjacking in the Bellamy Grand apartment complex (2625 SW 75th Street), where the victim said four young people pulled up next to him in a black car. One of the suspects reportedly got out of the black car and told the victim, “I’m taking your vehicle,” and the victim said he could not have his vehicle. The victim said three more suspects got out of the black car and approached his vehicle, causing him to fear that they would “jump” him and take his vehicle. The victim said one of them, later identified as Gueye, threw an unknown liquid on him, and when he reached for his phone to call 911, one of the suspects quickly backed up and reached for his waistband; the victim said he feared he was reaching for a gun.

The victim said the suspects retreated to their car and fled southbound on Tower Road at a high rate of speed, and he followed them so he could report their location to law enforcement. The black car entered Garrison Way, where deputies soon found the car backed into a residential driveway and arrested four suspects; the arresting deputy reported that none of the suspects live in Garrison Way.
