The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is asking for the public’s help after an unauthorized stop sign was discovered at the intersection of SW 52nd Street and 18th Place, near the Cabana Beach Apartments. The illegal stop sign led to confusion among drivers, significant traffic disruptions, and unsafe driving behavior.
The sign was removed on Friday night by the City of Gainesville Public Works Department to prevent further issues and maintain road safety.
“We are committed to ensuring safe and clear driving conditions for all roadway users, and the removal of the unauthorized stop sign was crucial to that effort,” said Brandon Hatzel, GPD Public Information Officer. “We are investigating the incident and asking for assistance from the community.”
Anyone with information on the installation of the sign is urged to contact the Gainesville Police Department at (352) 393-7500. The city remains focused on ensuring that traffic control devices are properly installed and in compliance with all regulations.
