A 59-year-old man from The Villages who was trying to walk across a busy roadway at night in southeast Marion County was hit and killed Friday.

Where was the crash? In the 16900 block of U.S. 301 South in Summerfield.
What time was the crash? Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said his agency received the call at 10:41 p.m. and arrived at 10:46 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead at 10:49 p.m.
Which agency is investigating? Florida Highway Patrol.
What happened? Troopers said an SUV driven by a 57-year-old Ocala man was northbound on U.S. 301 in the outside lane.
The pedestrian had left a local bar and was attempting to cross U.S. 301. The victim entered the roadway walking eastbound.
Officials said the driver was unable to see the pedestrian in the roadway and the vehicle struck him.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, troopers said. Officials said the driver was not injured.
Troopers identified the deceased as a 59-year-old man from The Villages. Law enforcement officials said the area where the man was hit was dark and he was wearing dark clothing.
