Important updates to memorial cross application process

MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Significant changes have been implemented in the application process for purchasing memorial crosses to honor veterans at the Marion County Veterans Park.

The program, which allows families to commemorate their loved ones with a cross adorned with a mounted flag and engraved with their name, branch of service, and military conflict, continues to be a cherished tradition. These crosses are proudly displayed for a week before and after both Memorial Day and Veterans Day annually.

The memorial display has gained significant community support, with hundreds of crosses already purchased and displayed. Notably, a special tribute honors the 13 soldiers who lost their lives during the Abbey Gate attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2021.

To purchase a cross, families must provide the veteran’s DD214 form. Recognizing the challenge some families face in obtaining this document, officials now advise visiting the National Archives to request a copy.
