Alachua County’s oldest Black women’s organization to host semi-annual session

Helping needy members of the Black community in Gainesville and Alachua County, with an emphasis on taking care of the sick and burying the dead, has been the aim of the Female Protective Society since it was established.

Since its humble beginnings in 1903, when it was founded by five Christian women , the group’s mission has been to help women in need, said Michelle Rutledge, a member of group.

“This combination of service through love, along with helping to ensure women are honored both in life and death, has thereby been touching families across the North Central Florida area for more than a century,” Rutledge said…
