Fearful Villager refuses to testify in alleged attack at recreation center

A Villager who was attacked at a recreation center has refused to testify against her alleged attacker.

The prosecutor’s office announced this past week that no information will be filed in the case of 46-year-old Anthony Santangelo, who lives with his elderly grandparents in Villa Valdosta in the Village of Belle Aire. Santangelo had been facing a felony charge of battery on a person over the age of 65. In the announcement of no information, the prosecutor’s office indicated that, “Victim did not wish to prosecute.”

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called at about noon March 31 to the First Responders Recreation Center after Santangelo allegedly grabbed the 70-year-old volunteer by her arm.

Santangelo, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds, was told by a recreation center employee that he could not participate in a card game, as he has been previously barred from other recreation centers in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown…
