GRU stops adding fluoride to drinking water

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – GRU has stopped supplementing its drinking water with fluoride in accordance with a new Florida law that “prohibits the use of any additive to a public water supply that is not for the explicit purpose of improving water quality.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed SB 700, the Florida Farm Bill, into law on May 15. The law requires public utilities to stop adding fluoride in the water treatment process on July 1. In anticipation of the law, GRU stopped ordering the chemical and consequently ran out on June 26…
