Man caught driving golf cart on public road found to be in possession of fentanyl

A Summerfield man was arrested on drug charges after telling deputies he fixed a golf cart in exchange for fentanyl.

A deputy responded to a traffic stop at 6300 SE 145th Street, Summerfield, around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, he met with another deputy who had 51-year-old James Dale Wells. He had been stopped for driving a golf cart on a public road.

When asked for his ID, Wells advised that he did not have any due to not having a valid driver’s license. He instead gave his name and stated he was 49 years old, which made the deputies suspicious. He eventually gave the correct information and was unhandcuffed, the report said.

Wells then told the deputies that he repaired the golf cart for “Hector” and was taking it back to Hector’s mother’s house. He lifted the seat of the golf cart and allowed them to search for a serial number. At this time, he had a backpack in his possession, the report said…
