An elderly man claims he was injured after his cane got caught on a shelving unit and he tripped near a bathroom at a Publix in Ocala, joining at least seven other individuals who have made similar claims locally over the past six months.
Attorneys representing James Eldon Long filed the lawsuit against Publix Super Markets, Inc. in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on July 10.
Brooks, who was a resident of Levy County at the time of the alleged incident, claims he was visiting the Publix located at 2575 42nd Street, Unit 100, within the Grand Oaks Town Center on October 11, 2023.
During his shopping visit, Long claims he visited the bathroom within the store. According to Long, “just before the bathroom door, there was a shelving unit on the wall with one of the shelves on the bottom sticking out farther than the wall.”…
