Alachua County Public Schools students head back to the classroom on Aug. 11. That means crowded stores with back-to-school shoppers, early mornings, extra-curricular activities, and longer commute times with special attention paid around school zones and bus stops.
Here’s what you need to know to get ready for the school year.
Florida back-to-school sales tax holiday
The state sales tax holiday for back-to-school shopping has begun and runs through Aug. 31.
Here’s what is included in the sales tax holiday.
- Personal computers or personal computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use, having a sales price of $1,500 or less, including:
- Personal computer-related accessories such as keyboards, mice, modems, monitors, routers and other peripheral devices.
- Wallets and bags having a sales price of $100 or less per item, including backpacks, diaper bags, fanny packs and handbags.
- School supplies having a sales price of $50 or less per item, such as binders, composition books, crayons, glue, legal pads, lunch boxes, pens, pencils, rulers, staplers and scissors.
- Clothing, footwear, and accessories having a sales price of $100 or less per item.

Families with students who were enrolled last year in a charter, private, homeschool or other program that was not part of Alachua County Public Schools must complete a a New Student Online Enrollment form at www.sbac.edu/enrollment.
