Gainesville Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Fatal 2024 Hit-and-Run Crash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, 22-year-old Eric Baker pled guilty to multiple charges stemming from a deadly crash in Gainesville last summer. Baker was sentenced to 15 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

He pled guilty to the following charges:

  • Fleeing and Attempting to Allude
  • Vehicular Homicide – Failure to Render Aid
  • Reckless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury
  • Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on the evening of Friday, July 26, 2024. At approximately 6:40 p.m., Gainesville Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a grey Infiniti sedan for multiple traffic violations. As officers approached, the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed.

Officers did not pursue the Infiniti. Moments later, the vehicle crashed into a red Dodge sedan at the intersection of NW 10th Avenue and NW 6th Street…
