GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, Gainesville Fire Rescue crews responded to an apartment fire and determined that the fire started after a resident fell asleep smoking; investigators also found that the smoke detectors had been disabled by the occupants.
At about 4 a.m. on August 28, multiple units from Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a reported apartment fire in the area of 1100 NW 45th Ave. Upon arrival, units found a small smoldering fire in a back bedroom that had been mostly extinguished by the resident.
