Unlicensed rider claims he’d just picked up motorcycle from tow yard

A Summerfield man was arrested for driving with a suspended license after being stopped on a motorcycle he just picked up from a tow yard.

A deputy spotted 37-year-old Derek David Jackson driving a white motorcycle southbound on 3800 S Pine Ave., Ocala, around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He changed lanes without using a signal, wore no eye protection and had no visible tag.

Jackson was subsequently stopped and gave the deputy an ID card. He advised that the motorcycle was stolen around two years ago, and he had just picked it up from the tow yard, the report said.

A check of his driving status showed his license had been suspended for one year on July 20, 2022. He had another suspension on July 18, 2024, and an indefinite cancellation on Oct. 8, 2024, the report said…
