Former Marion County oncology nurse beats cancer, shares message for women

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) — A Marion County breast cancer survivor who spent more than 40 years as an oncology nurse is urging other women to get regular mammograms after her own delayed screening led to a more serious diagnosis.

Margaret Surowka says she was traveling between Sarasota and Michigan in 2017 when she found a lump. Her nurse practitioner forced her to schedule a mammogram when she learned Surowka hadn’t had one in four years.
