University of Florida Police Clarify Halloween Costume Incident Mistaken for Armed Suspect

Gainesville, FL – The University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) responded Thursday morning, October 30, to multiple reports of a possible armed individual near Little Hall on the Gainesville campus.

Around 11 a.m., dispatchers received calls stating that a man was seen carrying what appeared to be a firearm. Officers immediately searched the area, and during the response, a person contacted police saying he believed he matched the description being circulated online.

When officers spoke with the individual, they learned he was dressed as a science fiction character for Halloween and that the “firearm” was actually a water pistol used as part of his costume. UFPD confirmed there was no threat to the campus and that the individual had no intent to alarm or harm anyone…
