An Ocklawaha man was arrested after being stopped hauling a trailer with every VIN purposely scuffed off.
Deputies responded to a burglary at a residence on Southeast 142nd Place in Summerfield at 6 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. They were given the description of a dark pickup truck, later found to be driven by 42-year-old Robert Perrin Burton.
While en route, the deputies spotted a truck hauling a trailer with a motor and transmission that matched the description of what was taken from the incident location. Deputies stopped the truck, detained Burton and took a closer look at the trailer. They found its VIN had been removed from the frame, the report said.
Burton stated he knew the VIN was missing but advised that he got it that way. He bought it a year ago by trading in an air compressor, a tool box and other items. He had not gotten it registered yet had the title at home. He believed it was possibly a Tow King, which was disproven by the title listing it as a Kiefer, the report said…
