Ocala veterans who adopted baby left at fire station competing for $12 million on NBC game show

An Ocala firefighter and his wife, who adopted the first child left in a Safe Haven Baby Box in Marion County almost exactly three years ago, were selected to compete for up to $12 million on an NBC game show next week.

Vincent Alexander, a firefighter and paramedic with Ocala Fire Rescue, and his wife, Katy, an occupational therapist, are set to appear in a new episode of “The Wall” on NBC on Monday, January 12 at 9 p.m. EST. Both Navy veterans who met during deployment, the Alexanders will compete for a cash prize that could reach up to $12 million.

On January 1 2023, Vincent responded to an alarm at his fire station’s Safe Haven Baby Box, which is a device that allows parents to safely and anonymously surrender newborns. Inside the box, he discovered a baby girl who was just 12 hours old.

The Alexanders, who had struggled for years to start a family, felt an immediate connection to the infant and eventually adopted her. The child, Zoey, celebrated her third birthday last week…
