Historic Melrose High School alumni sit in classrooms before demolition due to asbestos

MELROSE, Fla. (WCJB) – Just shy of its 100th birthday, a historic school building in Melrose is being demolished because of asbestos. Tuesday, Alumni toured the old “small community school” before it’s set to be torn down.

All around the historical Melrose High School Building, now home to Melrose Elementary School, fences block off construction sites where new buildings are set to replace ones built in 1927. Putnam County School leaders said in September the buildings weren’t up to code.
