Local family heads to Florida for execution of man who killed their brother

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Thomas and Nancy Sheridan are traveling to Florida to witness the execution of Ronald Heath, the man convicted of killing their brother more than three decades ago. Heath robbed and killed Michael Sheridan during a business trip in Gainesville in May 1989.

Heath was sentenced to death in December 1990, but appeals have kept him on death row for 35 years. The Sheridan family has spent years researching death penalty cases and advocating for the sentence to be carried out, including a campaign that involved flooding the Governor’s Office with letters and phone calls.

Sheridan, the victim’s sister, described the execution as a long-awaited resolution. “Well, I obviously never saw, you know, anything like it, you just. Justice served. We’ve waited a long time,” Sheridan said. Her brother, Thomas Sheridan, noted he felt no hesitation regarding the punishment. “For me, I have zero problem. Oh yeah, no problem here, either.
