Pickup Slams Stopped SUV, Killing Ocala Woman At Marion County Crossroads

A Sunday drive turned tragic in Marion County when a 40-year-old Ocala woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash, according to troopers.

The collision happened around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of NE 36th Ave Road and NE 40th Ave Road. Investigators say a pickup failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the back of an SUV that had stopped at the intersection. Emergency crews rushed the SUV driver to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Troopers’ account of the crash

According to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, the SUV was stopped at the intersection’s stop sign when a northbound pickup traveling behind it did not stop and slammed into the rear of the SUV.

The impact pushed the SUV across the intersection, where it overturned and came to rest north of the initial crash area. The pickup rolled to a stop on the northeast corner of the intersection…
