Gainesville man’s website gives families a voice in cold cases

Dustin Terry is the founder of The Cold Cases, a Substack publication spotlighting unsolved murders across the country. Through interviews, he gives families a platform to talk about loved ones whose killers were never found, in hopes of drawing renewed attention to their cases.

Based in Gainesville, Terry has interviewed about 20 families since launching the site in February 2025 and has a backlog of roughly 50 more who have reached out to him and his team for interviews.

Terry holds a master’s degree in psychology and previously worked as a mental health screener, regularly working with children experiencing family trauma and abuse. He grew up in a violent household in Oklahoma, with family ties to the Little Dixie Mafia. It was his upbringing he says showed him early on that justice is not always evenly applied…
