Leesburg man accused of punching his mother in the face twice

A Leesburg man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday for allegedly punching his mother in the face earlier this year.

A deputy responded to a past stabbing incident involving 29-year-old Johnny Shayne Simpson and his mother at an undisclosed Marion County residence on Jan. 23, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The mother advised that Simpson had struck her in the face, evidenced by two bruises on the left side of her jawline. She explained how she believed someone was trying to get into her bedroom, which she kept secured with a deadbolt requiring key access only. She was in the process of changing the lock when Simpson became irate and aggressive toward her, the report said.

He then punched her once in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. After this, she moved into the living room, where he struck her a second time in the same area of her face. She tried to defend herself by stabbing him with a screwdriver, but she did not succeed, the report said…
