Gainesville to unveil redesigned City Hall plaza at ribbon-cutting

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Gainesville city leaders and residents are invited on Friday to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly remodeled City Hall Plaza, a project approved in 2023 that city officials say creates a more functional gathering space.

The redesign removes the aging ponds that had been part of the plaza since the 1960s, a change officials said was driven by long-standing maintenance issues. In their place, the city added expanded walking areas and remodeled seating, opening up what leaders are calling “The People’s Plaza.”
