A Thursday morning fire that started in an alley in Central Phoenix forced 10 people out of their home after flames jumped from a debris pile into a nearby house near 12th Street and McDowell Road. Fire officials said everyone inside got out before crews arrived, and firefighters moved quickly to knock down the flames and chase lingering hot spots.
A Phoenix Fire battalion chief told 12 News the blaze began in alley debris and then crept into the home, prompting a multi-unit response after crews were dispatched around 10:45 a.m. Ten residents were displaced as firefighters worked the scene, knocking down visible flames and checking for any remaining problem areas. Images from the response were credited to the Phoenix Fire Department.
How Crews Got the Fire Under Control
Phoenix Fire Department units split their efforts between extinguishing the main body of fire, ventilating the structure and checking nearby buildings for heat or smoke damage while they secured the area. Phoenix Fire Department resources note that quick evacuation and clear access for fire trucks and equipment are key in residential incidents like this one.
