Ketel Marte Named to Second All-Star Start by Fans

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has been selected by fans as the National League’s starting second baseman for the 2024 All-Star Game, marking his second career All-Star start.

The 2024 All-Star Game is set for July 16 at Globe Life Field in Texas.

Marte, who also started the 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland, will join Paul Goldschmidt as the only Diamondbacks with multiple fan elections.

Marte’s selection follows a stellar first half of the season, where he led all second basemen in several key statistical categories.

In Phase 1 of the voting, Marte garnered 1,853,424 votes, outpacing the Padres’ Luis Arraez by nearly 100,000 votes.

This season, Marte’s statistics have been nothing short of impressive.

He leads all second basemen with a 4.4 bWAR, .517 slugging percentage, .871 OPS, 38 extra-base hits, 50 RBIs, 166 total bases, and 11 defensive runs saved.

He is also tied for first in home runs (17), ranks second in doubles (19), tied for second in dWAR (1.4), and third in hits (92).
