Crash closes McDowell Mountain Road out of Fountain Hills

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies in Fountain Hills responded to a report of a single vehicle crash along McDowell Mountain Road shortly after midnight Friday, Dec. 20.

According to MCSO Capt. Larry Kratzer, commander for Sheriff’s District 7 based in Fountain Hills, the vehicle with two occupants went off the roadway along the curve in the roadway. It came to rest in a wash area adjacent to the McDowell Mountain Elementary School.

Kratzer said two people were transported to a hospital for treatment, one with life-threatening injuries.

The MCSO vehicle crimes unit was called to investigate and were still on the scene at 8 a.m. The road remains closed until the investigation is complete. Access to the school for Friday classes was open and there is no interruption in the school operation.
