Gilbert Gears Up for New Projects in the Heritage District

The Gilbert Office of Economic Development is launching the Digging the District campaign to support upcoming construction scheduled in the Heritage District in the months ahead.

A new website, DiggingtheDistrict.com, will highlight all announced Heritage District projects and their varying phases of development to serve as an informative resource for residents and visitors on downtown Gilbert’s developments. The first project will implement phase one for Gilbert’s wayfinding and place marketing project, which will feature the installation of new directional signage in February.

“The new year brings some much-anticipated changes taking shape in the Heritage District, helping establish a stronger sense of place for Gilbert’s downtown,” said Dan Henderson, Gilbert’s Economic Development Director. “As the district continues to evolve and serve up a collection of distinct experiences and offerings for both daytime and evening audiences, ensuring smooth pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow remains a top priority. The directional signage aims to benefit the Heritage District visitor.”

Gilbert’s Heritage District is also introducing a new identity with the signage installation to help tell the district’s story. The Redevelopment team enlisted Phoenix agency Multistudio for the project, which began work in March 2023. With Town leaders, Town-wide Department leads, and members of the public and Heritage District businesses acting as a steering committee, they identified three character-defining areas in the district: Railway, Canal, and Water Tower. Storytelling signs identifying these core regions of the downtown will be installed, highlighting significant historical dates and offering a short narrative as visitors embark upon each area…
