Embattled Primavera Online owner, who made millions while his charter school students failed, lays off staff but is poised for another major payout

PHOENIX — The owner of embattled Primavea Online School is laying off staff and blaming the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools for the firings.

Damian Creamer on Thursday told employees at StrongMind, the parent company of Primavera, that “today’s layoffs are a direct result of the State Board’s intent to revoke Primavera’s charter.”

The charter board voted earlier this month 7-1 to begin the process to shut down Primavera because it received three consecutive years of “D” letter grades. In addition, just 9 percent of its students were proficient in math last year…
