Phoenix metro ranked low in walkability as lawmaker takes transit challenge

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A new study shows the Phoenix metro ranks low in walkability compared to most major cities, labeling it a car-dependent city.

The region has made some strides in public transit, including expanded bus routes and additional light rail lines. Eric Iwersen, the City of Tempe’s Transportation Director, said it remains a top priority.

“We continue to put more resources, I just looked at the budget number, and for rail we just increased it, for Tempe alone over $5 million,” Iwersen said…
