Chandler woman accepts plea deals in animal cruelty, fraud cases

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Chandler woman arrested more than two years ago after dead dogs were found in the freezer of her home has accepted a plea deal in that case and in a fraud case.

Court records show that April McLaughlin, also known by the alias Sydney S. McKinley, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two felony charges of intentionally subjecting an animal to cruel mistreatment. She also entered a guilty plea on charges of fraudulent schemes and theft.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026. In the animal cruelty case, she could face anywhere from six months to 2.5 years in prison on the first count and supervised probation with animal care restrictions on the second.
