Dozens of cars catch fire at south Phoenix junkyard

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A huge column of smoke was seen for miles in the south Phoenix area because of a car junkyard fire that broke out on Thursday evening.

Dozens of firefighters were called out around 5 p.m. to a business near 23rd Avenue and Broadway Road. When they arrived, they found that about 30 cars were on fire.

The call was then bumped up to a first alarm, which means more firefighters and equipment were sent to the fire…
