Newly released dashcam video from Gilbert police shows an officer taking down an 18-year-old suspected of stealing a child’s electric bike, just minutes after a tearful 911 call from the young victim. In the footage, the officer orders the rider off the e-bike near Greenfield and Elliot roads, forces him to the ground and detains him as another officer recovers what police say was a handgun. Audio from the 911 call, with the boy crying, “He stole my bike,” was played for reporters when the department released the video Thursday.

Police Say Gun And Bike Were Recovered
Body-worn camera clips in the police release show an officer holding a small handgun that police identified as a .22-caliber, and officers recovering the stolen e-bike, which news reports valued at about $800. The department said the suspect told officers he was forced to take the bike by the juvenile he had met shortly before the robbery, according to 12 News.
