Trooper uses patrol truck to stop wrong-way driver on US 60 in Apache Junction

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An off-duty trooper used his patrol truck to stop a wrong-way driver on the U.S. 60 east of the Valley just after midnight, according to the Arizona State Troopers Association.

Video from the scene shows front-end damage to the Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper’s truck from the head-on collision. The trooper was not seriously hurt.

Trooper was working overtime when call came in

The trooper was working an off duty overtime shift at a construction site when a call came over the radio about a wrong-way driver.

“He was working overtime in a construction site and of course we’re required to monitor our radios for any emergency traffic and then the call came about a wrong-way driver. So he jumped in,” said Jeff Hawkins, president of the Arizona State Troopers Association…
