‘We belong here’: Muslim community reacts to vandalism of ‘A’ Mountain Ramadan display

TEMPE, Ariz — Tempe police are investigating the vandalism of a Ramadan display on “A” Mountain, an incident local Muslim community members say left them shaken but not deterred.

The damage was discovered Tuesday, during the final nights of Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting, prayer and charity for Muslims. A crescent moon — a symbol of the observance — had been knocked down and damaged about a month after it was installed. Police estimate the cost at around $20,000.
