Goodyear addresses elevated drinking water levels

Goodyear is formalizing its plan to address elevated levels of a regulated drinking water byproduct under an agreement with Maricopa County that requires additional treatment, testing and a timeline for bringing the city’s water system back into compliance.

The Goodyear City Council authorized Water Services Director Barbara Chappell to enter into a consent order with the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department after the city exceeded federal limits for total trihalomethanes, or TTHMs, at two sampling locations.

TTHMs are disinfection byproducts that can form when chlorine used to disinfect drinking water reacts with naturally occurring organic material.
