Lovely and more pets up for adoption in Phoenix-area shelters this week

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Misty: Happy, bouncing girl

Originally rescued by an Arizona Humane Society Cruelty Investigator all the way back in March of last year for suspected abandonment, it was found that Misty’s owner had unfortunately passed away and did not have anyone else to care for her. With nowhere else to turn, she found herself at the shelter.

Upon examination in AHS’ trauma hospital, the six-year-young Australian Cattle Dog – Chow Chow mix was found to be in need of a dental where she had several worn and broken teeth removed. Once healed, the beautiful girl was quickly adopted. Fast forward a few months, sweet Misty was sadly returned a few days after Christmas due to her owner sadly no longer being able to care for her.
