When spring begins, the 2024 Glendale city election races will turn from speculative to serious.
Candidates have from March 9 to April 8 to file their completed election paperwork, Glendale City Clerk Julie Bower said.
If the potential candidates who filed statements of interest translates to official candidates, Glendale will have a three-way mayoral race, a three-candidate race to replace longtime Yucca District council member Joyce Clark — who is retiring — and two incumbents going unopposed on Aug. 6.
If Jamie Aldama follows through on his interest to run for mayor, he will step down as Ocotillo District council representative after more than nine years served. Since Glendale is a charter city, the remaining council members would pick his successor.
“Once he files the nomination paperwork, that would trigger the vacancy,” Bower said.
Paul Boyer announced his mayoral candidacy a year ago. He served as a Republican member of the Senate representing District 20, which includes much of Glendale and north Phoenix, from 2019 to early 2023.
