The Phoenix Police Department is accepting applications for Police Civilian Investigators until February 8, 2024. This is the third time they have opened applications for this role. Civilian Investigators perform administrative tasks, follow leads, and interview witnesses. They work with detectives to build cases, write warrants and reports, and help submit cases for prosecution.

Some Civilian Investigators will be assigned to the Employment Services Bureau. Here, they will help with background checks for applicants for both sworn and professional staff. This is expected to speed up the hiring process. Civilian Investigators will also work with detectives in the Violian Crimes Bureau, Family Investigations Bureau, and Property Crimes Bureau.

The Civilian Investigator role was established in 2022. It was created to use the skills of retired detectives during a time of police staffing shortages. These individuals contribute to various parts of investigations and police work, without needing to carry a firearm or make arrests.
