New sculpture near light rail extension lights up south Phoenix sky

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — This weekend, the South Central Extension of the light rail will officially open this weekend in Phoenix and there will be a piece of art sure to catch riders’ eyes.

The south Phoenix Community was looking for an artist who could create something unique to complement the new light rail and found Isaac Caruso.

Caruso went to survey the area near First Avenue and Sherman Street, which is north of Buckeye Road, where the sculpture would sit. It turns out it’s just a stone’s throw from the original homestead of Darrell Duppa, who is credited with naming the city of Phoenix…
