Melissa and Ryan Langhor, who live at the sharp turn near West Northwest Ranch Parkway and 163rd Lane in Surprise, Arizona, have seen 18 cars slam into their property. That’s not a typo. Eighteen.
Their house sits in the crosshairs of a near-90-degree turn that Arizona drivers often overshoot, especially at speeds well above the posted 25 mph limit. What should be a quiet residential curve has turned into a demolition derby with very real stakes.
Some cars plowed through their wall. One even ended up in their dining room…while the family was eating.
Now, they’re done waiting. After yet another crash, they painted a blunt message across their wall: “City of Surprise. Do we have to die? Fix the road.”
This wasn’t a publicity stunt. It was desperation. The Langhors say they no longer sleep in their bedroom, fearing a vehicle might come barreling through in the night. And while they’ve pleaded with city officials before, including at a 2021 commissioner’s meeting, they felt ignored…until now.
Following the latest crash, the city showed up. But not to talk safety.
Staff came to make sure the replacement wall matched neighborhood paint guidelines…
