Teen Charged with Aggravated Assault After Attempted Sneaker Theft at Glendale’s Arrowhead Towne Center

A recent violent incident at a Glendale mall has highlighted the sometimes dangerous obsession with high-end fashion, even when the items at the center of the conflict are imitations. Nicole Winfree, a mother from the Phoenix area, reported that her son, Brady, was assaulted at Arrowhead Towne Center. Brady, who moved to the Valley from Ohio just months prior, experienced more than the usual challenges of adjusting to a new place when he was attacked by another teenager over his sneakers.

According to a FOX10 Phoenix report, the assailant attempted to forcibly take the shoes from Brady – which were designed to resemble Balenciaga sneakers, a brand known for retailing at over a thousand dollars a pair. Despite their appearance, the shoes in question were not genuine. “I don’t know why people are so evil or why they would want to hurt my son,” Nicole Winfree told, conveying the mental and physical trauma suffered by her son, which included a severe concussion and facial injuries.

In an alarming twist of events, the Glendale Police Department reported that the teen suspect, who was later apprehended, admitted to the entire assault. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault and robbery…
