Phoenix police officer charged in on-duty crash

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A grand jury has indicted a Phoenix police officer on aggravated assault and endangerment charges stemming from a crash that injured the cop and two others in March.

According to a police report obtained by Arizona’s Family Investigates, Ofc. Joshua Allen Woodcock was driving at speeds exceeding 50 mph over the speed limit just before 1 a.m. on March 14.

Arizona’s Family reported on the crash on that morning, which happened near Buckeye Road and the I-17 Black Canyon Access Road in south-central Phoenix. The report stated the posted limit was 35 mph, but Woodcock’s estimated speed was between 86 and 89 mph.

In that report, police said Woodcock tried to avoid the crash by “braking” and steering away, but collided with a Honda sedan at 72 mph that had turned left to head northbound along Black Canyon Access.
