Arizona among worst states for deadly red-light running

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona drivers caused nearly 6,000 collisions by running red lights in 2024, with 64 of those being deadly, according to a report released by the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Ed Taube, a defensive driving instructor for the Arizona Chapter of the National Safety Council, said Arizona leads the nation in red-light crashes. The deadly problem shows no signs of slowing down despite ongoing safety efforts.

“Obviously, we’re hoping to reduce crashes and collisions, injuries and fatalities,” Taube said. “Unfortunately, the numbers haven’t been very good.”…
