GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A memorial service on Wednesday is set to honor a Glendale fire captain who fought for firefighter compensation benefits while battling a rare form of cancer.
Captain Kevin “KT” Thompson was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer that forms in white blood cells, in 2019. He filed a workers’ compensation claim with the city of Glendale shortly after his diagnosis.
The claim was denied a few months later by a third-party vendor because of a state law that protected insurance companies from certain work-related cancers at the time…
