The Tolleson Union High School District (TUHSD) Governing Board recently entered an intergovernmental agreement with the Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) to partner on bus maintenance and repair services. Following a 4-1 vote in favor of the measure, TUHSD will handle garage and mechanical services for GESD’s transportation fleet, with the elementary school district reimbursing TUHSD for the work — ensuring the elementary school district’s buses are safe and meet state regulations.
“Glendale Elementary presently does not have any mechanics (and) they’re not alone in that situation — there are other districts looking at whole-scale eliminations of transportation departments as funding gets tighter,” Superintendent Jeremy Calles said. “They reached out to Glendale Union for support, (but) Glendale Union does not have the bandwidth to support them.”
The intergovernmental agreement between the two districts is a one-year agreement with the potential to be renewed annually, or terminated with 30 days’ notice. All of the maintenance, repairs and inspections necessary for the operation of GESD’s transportation fleet will be handled by TUHSD, who Calles explained will bill the elementary school district for its services…
