Friends reaffirm charity mission after founder injured in explosion

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The community is rallying around Lucy Preston, who was seriously injured when her Comstock Park home exploded Tuesday.

Two neighbors pulled Preston from the burning wreckage of her home after the blast, which authorities say is believed to have been intentionally set by her husband. A body believed to be that of her husband was recovered from the property.

Preston founded the nonprofit Busia’s Boutique at Jackson Street Hall in Grand Rapids. News 8 interviewed her in October 2024 when the charity began serving the area.

“She so appreciates being here and working with the families to get necessary items for their children. She could not give up this place under any circumstances,” the president of the Polish National Aid Society, Anna Tylzynski, said…
