Construction underway on ‘transformative’ Factory Yards project in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The first phase of construction is well underway at Factory Yards, a $150 million mixed-use project that developers hope will be “transformative” for the neighborhood in southwest Grand Rapids.

Heritage Development Partners, led by co-presidents Scott Magaluk and Ben Smith, is the firm behind the project. The Factory Yards site spans more than 15 acres along Godfrey Avenue SW south of Market Avenue SW.

“It’s about 650,000 square feet of building across multiple structures,” Magaluk said.

The developers say Factory Yards will ultimately include more than 450 apartments, as well as retail space and commercial space. It will be built in five different phases.
