GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was shot and killed by the Grand Rapids Police Department Saturday afternoon after authorities say he threw a Molotov cocktail, attempted an armed carjacking and stabbed a K-9 in a short police chase through the city’s northwest side.
The shooting happened on Widdicomb Avenue, according to police. GRPD is not identifying the man at this time, but said he was in his 40s.
During a Saturday press conference, GRPD’s interim chief Joe Trigg said a call was placed to authorities at around 1 p.m. on Alpine Avenue for a family member that was “having issues with another family member and was armed with a knife.” When police located the man at the home, he had a lit Molotov cocktail that he threw at a police cruiser, Trigg said.
