MSP: Suspect in Amazon fraud scheme killed in crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Rockford-area man killed in a crash in mid-Michigan last week is the same man accused of running a scam that netted him tens of thousands of dollars.

Eric Byrnes, 60, died following a crash Friday morning northeast of St. Johns in Clinton County, Michigan State Police confirmed to News 8 Wednesday.

Clinton County sheriff’s deputies also confirmed the driver’s identity, saying family had been notified. They say Byrnes’ car went off the road and hit a tree. He died later at the hospital. The sheriff’s office told WLNS, WOOD TV8’s Lansing sister station, on Wednesday that the crash remained under investigation, but a preliminary investigation indicated it was caused by a medical episode.
