The search for Grand Rapids‘ newest police chief has ended as the city has announced that they have reached a decision. And it’s a familiar face.

In a post on social media on June 22, the City of Grand Rapids announced that Joseph Trigg, who had formerly served as both deputy chief and interim chief, will take over the Grand Rapids Police Department. Chief Trigg will officially be sworn in on June 29, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers.
Chief Trigg has spent 25 years of his career with the Grand Rapids Police Department. In that time, the city says, he has “served across nearly every corner of the department” and has built relationships with individuals and organizations throughout the community…
